Both doctors at United Chiropractic utilize the Gonstead Technique in their practices. They have many years of experience treating disc problems, even after surgery has been performed. The Gonstead Technique was developed by Dr. Clarence S. Gonstead, who entered chiropractic with an engineering background and developed a very thorough, full spine technique during his 55 years of practice. The basis of the Gonstead methodology revolves around the intervertebral disc. In the 1930's Dr. Gonstead determined, after years of research and clinical practice, that the disc maintains the proper function of the vertebral column. His conclusion that an integral part of the vertebral subluxation was caused by disc displacement enabled him to develop extremely specific methods of adjusting the vertebrae to restore the optimal function of the disc. It is the analysis of the disc, and the changes it undergoes, that gives the most reliable information for locating the potential vertebral subluxation.
The vertebral column (spine) protects the nervous system and supports /stabilizes the body as a whole. Flexibility is afforded the spine through the intervertebral disc. Disruption of this spinal balance creates misaligned vertebrae (subluxations), disc problems and nerve dysfunction. The Gonstead methodology attempts to find and correct spinal dysfunction, thus restoring the disc and nerve integrity, through specific corrective procedures called spinal adjustments. A combination of symptomatology, static and motion palpation, instrumentation, and X-ray analysis are utilized to determine where to adjust, when to adjust, and when not to adjust a person's spine. A Gonstead adjustment is very specific.
Due to this unique chiropractic approach to restoring disc function, the doctors at United Chiropractic have treated thousands of adults and children with spinal and extremity injuries related to sports, slip & falls, trip & falls, lifting injuries, on-the-job injuries, and auto accidents.
