Heel Pain
Heel pain is usually due to repetitive irritation of the tissue on the bottom of the foot called the plantar fascia. This thick band of tissue acts like a rubber band on the bottom of the foot, helping to hold up the arch and supporting the structures on the bottom of the foot. Pain occurs because of small tears in the fascia where it attaches to the heel bone. This tearing causes bleeding, swelling and pain. Treatment is aimed at stopping the persistent pulling and allowing the fascia to heel.Other causes of heel pain are nerve damage, direct injury to the heel bone and arthritic diseases.
Even though bunions are a common foot deformity, there are misconceptions about them. Many people may unnecessarily suffer the pain of bunions for years before seeking treatment.
